Time: 12:05 a.m. Jurisdiction: other jurisdiction
Place of Occurrence: Coral Springs
Victim(s):
-
Anthony Murray, 30, Alexandria, VA (DECEASED)
Suspect(s):
-
Anthony Colvert, 28, 4111 NW 79 Ave., Coral Springs
Description of Incident:
A true-to-life sketch produced by BSO’s enhanced Forensic Art Unit resulted in a Crime Stoppers tip that led to the arrest of a Coral Springs murder suspect.
The arrest of Anthony Colvert for the murder of Anthony Murray was handled by Coral Springs Police and specific questions regarding the crime need to be directed to that department.
But the Broward Sheriff’s Office is proud of its support role in the investigation. Coral Springs Police detectives asked for assistance from BSO forensic artist John McMahon. McMahon met with witnesses, and based on their recollections, drew a sketch of a heavy-set man with a double-chin, down turned mouth and narrow nose. That sketch brought several tips, including one to Crime Stoppers that led to the identification and arrest of Anthony Colvert.
The BSO Forensic Art Unit is comprised of court-certified artists and forensic technician interns working with BSO and receiving training from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. The unit assists police agencies and the Broward Medical Examiner in identifying criminal suspects and unknown crime victims.
